I created flatplans in my sketchbook for the front & back cover, the table of contents, and the double spread.
THE COVER - I am breaking some conventions with my cover design, as it will not have any cover lines, and the masthead and picture are not meant to sell the magazine to a larger audience, but to a niche part of it who enjoy such content and resonate with its aesthetic.
THE TABLE OF CONTENTS - I attempted to make the table of contents more fun-looking than most others, by layering the article titles over a photo, and placing a 'featured artist' page on its left in oder to keep the reader's eyes on the page, as well as to anticipate the magazine issue.
THE DOUBLE SPREAD - I thought about the symbolistic meaning of the word 'seesaw', as it is one of the titles of an editorial in my magazine. With the photo(s) in this editorial I aim to represent feelings of insecurity, instability, and the hardship of making a choice and having the confidence that it was the right one. An important part of this editorial is conveying feelings of insecurity but the inability to stop doing what you are doing. In my case, I could never give up art, as much as I dislike my works sometimes.
THE BACK COVER - For the back cover I aimed for something simple - it will be either a blank colour with the barcode in the lower left, or a photo that ties in with the cover somehow.
