BRANDING

"How do the elements of your production work together to create a sense of ‘branding’?"

For our Alevel media project we tried to successfully create a rounded branding sense throughout our products.

Firstly, for the website we followed the same template. Everything is on the same page, therefore it is easy to find and click on. Our website has followed most of the original Kungs’ website. For example we have used a black and white image of all of the girls that were also acting in the music video, (gives the public a sense of familiarity, the original site only has one with Valentin Brunel). This gives a minimalistic and alternative look which is popular nowadays. We have uploaded and advertised the album ‘layers’ on the site (from which we did our music video from). It has linkers directly to the artist’s social medias, which will make it easier for people to get more engaged with the DJ. Also, we have the big logo of KUNGS right on top of the page, so it is easy to recognise and make sure that you are on the right official website.

Secondly, our music video has four models that will act for their part. We have included different style of girls in in (sporty, fun, sexy, emo), so we could have a relatable feel to the video, and more girls would feel included, unlike if we only used one girl following a simple narrative. Plus, every girl’s part has a different colour hue, which most resembles to her personality and/or shot. For example, the first model was running in a park surrounded by nature, therefore we have altered the light a little more to the green. But the third girl has a happy and fun vibe, so we chose the colour yellow. This little changes keeps the viewers interested and is a chance for them to experience different moods. The change in environments also adds to that, because of the fast paced cuts and changes in the video. Moreover, the video has a story narrative behind it that for sure will drop some jaws. So, when we listen to the music’s lyrics, we can hear phrases such as  “keep the change cause I’ve got enough” “you’ll never buy my love” and “your pay checks don’t mean that much to me”. Therefore, we have created the video to align with these lyrics and their meanings. All of our girls want to find true love, (just like any of us, thats why the video can be relatable) but none of them needs any money. They are all different girls, but they are all authentic and enjoy the moment, instead of searching for materialistic pleasures.

Finally, the Digi Pack follows a similar pattern with the pop genre, but it also gives an entertaining feeling. We noticed that Kungs have colourful themes throughout their albums. This one (layers) specifically had a blue sky with the red ‘kungs’ logo. We have decided to change it a little bit and use a pink cloudy sky. Pink is a fun colour, and it is appropriate for the genre and the artist we are branding. The black and white pictures of the models is a simple and elegant way to show the models. We chose to let the Kungs logo white, as it goes best with the colour theme of the rest of the digipack. The inside of the digipack has a very interesting alternative edit of only the girls’ eyes in black and white, but still keeping that pink border that wraps and gives the album personality. The CD is defenetly regognisable with that deep pink and the logo. Everyone will notice it and may at least say “did you bring that pink CD with good music?”. Moreover, the back of the digipack has all the songs listed in the order they play, so it is easier for fans to know exactly what song in playing. Also the logo is placed on the top middle part on the back of the digipack, in order to reinforce the logo and keep the public aware of it.

In conclusion, we managed to organise and create realistic products with a strong sense of branding, similar to the original, mixed with our personalities and skills.
