ENGAGEMENT AND DISTRIBUTION

2. How does your product engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text?

In order to answer this question, I created a flyer:

TEXT:

As a real media text, my product would be distributed through various outlets such as shops/ magazine stands (a good example would be The Paintbrush Factory, Rembrandt, Carturesti - these are shops that sell art supplies, movies, CDs and vinyls and such), as well as on the magazine's official website. However, it is noted that the links to the magazine's website, as well as a distributor list will will appear towards the end of the magazine, maybe on the very last page, in small text. I do not wish for them to be bigger, as I want the people most interested in my magazine to take the time to search for more ways to connect with it. I follow so many things on social media which I forget about so often - I do not wish for BONBON to be another insignificant 'follow' for its readers.

Regarding communication with the audience, this would be done through bi-weekly posts on Instagram, as it takes more time to make a beautiful collage/obtain edited photographs or illustrations. On Twitter, the magazine's official account could post daily, as tweets must be short - it is also to be kept in mind that BONBON is a modern magazine, aimed more towards teenagers and young adults, so, if a group of young moderators would be created to manage the magazine's social media, it would be quite easy to come up with fun text to tweet out. Moreover, as BONBON has an article which relates to fashion, some fashion brands such as The Ragged Priest or Goodbye Bread could collaborate with BONBON, thus increasing the popularity of both the fashion brand and the magazine. The same could be done for the 'Featured Artist' page, as well as for stationary/ art supplies companies such as Winsor & Newton, or Canson for example. As for hashtags on social media, I believe that BONBON should only use the hashtag #bonbon and no other, in order not to give into temporary, fleeing tags which only last a week after they become 'stale' (overused, annoying to see again and again).

When thinking of how the magazine approaches its readers, I feel like an informal, casual approach works best - it would address the audience in a way similar to how friends talk to one another - with little to no boundaries, slang, jokes and such. BONBON should build a close connection with its readers, to ensure that they will come back for more articles and editorials, much like friends make time and look forward to meeting up, while still texting (the texting part would be defined by constant Twitter and Instagram posts). As for language, every article of BONBON will be in English - a common ground in order to build a global community of people who are passionate about art. This also helps BONBON to aim for a larger target audience, instead of only Romanians. It is also noted that most creative young people do have a basic understanding of the English language, and for those that struggle with English, the magazine is full of photos and simple phrases, in such a way that even a non-English speaker would get the message behind these things.

As for advertisement, as mentioned before, BONBON will include fashion brands, as well as art supply brands. What will help these advertisements be successful is the nature of the magazine, as well as the connection with the readers - BONBON will have a magazine-reader relationship built on trust, so that its readers will know that we would not advertise bad quality products to them.

Regarding the promotion of the magazine, it would be done mainly through the artists/brands featured in the articles and editorials of each issue. For example, the featured artist could post on Instagram/Twitter/Facebook about their appearance on the magazine, which would boost BONBON's popularity and sales.
