Writer's picture: caricari

Here is the lyric analysis for the song 'This Girl', by Kungs vs Cookin' on 3 Burners, The lyric analysis is particularly helpful as it shows us what the song is about and we can choose how to interpret it and how we will showcase our interpretation of it in the music video.

'This Girl' is a song performed by French DJ and record producer Kungs (Valentin Brunel) with Australian funk trio Cookin' on 3 Burners. It is a remix of Cookin' on 3 Burners' original song, with vocals by Kylie Auldist, which was released on September 10th, 2009.

Verse 1&2

These presents don't really come for free Your paychecks don't mean that much to me Just take my hand and hold me tight You'll never buy my love You buy me this and you buy me that To win over! Win me over! You got me wrong and that's a fact Something that you've got to notice"

The narrator’s setting out guidelines for any of her future partners: devotion, genuineness, and care. No amount of money can be spent to purchase the narrator’s affection – she’s got enough of it, and it’s too easy to get anyways. You need to be able to spend time with her and treat her tenderly, and most importantly, you just have to love her in an honest manner for her to love you back. She stresses the fact that no amount of money can buy love and that feelings are not for sale. Romantic gestures and true feelings are priceless meanwhile paychecks are pointless and vain. The narrator wants a strong, vivid relationship, not based on materialistic things but rather on true love.

Chorus

"Woh! Take my hand Or take over Take my hand you Or take over Take my hand you Or take over Take my hand Or take over"

The narrator reinforces the idea of true feelings above everything. She gives an ultimatum to her lover saying that she either take her hand, holding and noticing her or otherwise he can just take over, disappear. The other meaning would be that he either understands and adapts to her needs, takes her hand, or takes initiative and imposes his own, renewed, calls.

Bridge

This part transmits the idea that she’s already mentally checked out of the relationship because her partner hasn’t realized she doesn’t need gifts. Her detachment from the relationship is symbolised by the idea that she ,,dances to a different song". She wants her lover to realise that she is gone because knowing him, this was the only alternative.
